Operation Rising Lion Print
"Behold, a people rises like a lioness, And like a lion it raises itself" Numbers (Bamidbar) 23:24
I created this painting on June 15, one full day after the Operation Am KeLavi (Rising Lion) or 12 Day War with Iran began. This "war within a war" was nothing like we've experienced before, the missiles were twenty times larger and more powerful and many people were killed from them.
We had a new alert system that went off 10 minutes before the missiles, and then a national phone alert five minutes before them, and then the regular Red Alert 1.5 minutes before the missile would hit Tel Aviv. No one was sleeping, and no one knew where they would hit or the amount of destruction they would cause. On this night, one of the missiles hit the intersection of a road three streets from where we live. Everything around was destroyed, all homes, businesses, and roads. Objects fell off the shelves in our store in the Shuk (a five minute walk from the site) and the entire apartment shook. It was a miracle that everyone in this area was safe in bomb shelters and no one was killed in this specific incident.
It only seemed natural to paint a lion and the flag of Israel during this time because of the name and nature of this operation. It's a reminder of what we had to endure to ensure and defend the safety of our country and of our people. That we will not surrender but stand tall against the face of oppression
