Soldiers At The Beach Print
Last summer at Banana Beach in Tel Aviv, I saw a group of soldiers, around 19 years old, who had just returned from fighting. They dropped their gear, took off their uniforms, and ran straight into the water while one stayed behind to guard their weapons. I wanted to create a painting that showed this dissonance in our country, where you can go from a war zone to swimming in the ocean within an hour. I also wanted to highlight Israeli attitude toward the whole situation, that no matter how bad things get people continue to focus on finding the small joys in life.
